
The Danone Institute of Canada is a non-profit foundation created in January
1998. Funded by the Danone Inc. Company, it is administered by an independent
Board of Directors and Scientific Council. The Danone Institute's mission is to
improve health and well being of Canadians through better nutrition. Its
mandate is to promote nutritional behaviour changes in the general public and
vulnerable populations with an emphasis on childhood nutrition.
The institute fulfils its mandate through:

Promoting nutritional behaviour changes in the general public, within
vulnerable populations, emphasising on childhood nutrition;

Supporting research focused on factors leading to improved nutritional
behavioural changes, particularly during pregnancy, infancy, childhood and
adolescence;

Encouraging educational programs through alliances with professionals and
community organizations;

Recognising excellence in research, education and communication leading to
nutritional behavioural changes.
Since its creation in 1998, The Danone Institute of Canada has nationally
invested more than two and a half million dollars in funding 31 research teams
and 28 graduate students conducting research in areas of nutritional education
and communication leading to improved nutritional behavioural changes. The
Institute also sponsors nutrition students pursuing further studies in
journalism and communication. Presently, the Danone Institute of Canada is
providing research funding towards programs aimed at improving behavioural
changes particularly during pregnancy, infancy, childhood and adolescence.
